I can't seem to find a name for this one. About the size of a head of lettuce.

That's a big colony, I agree they look like snake polyps. Cool find, where did you get it?

It was another of the items that got "thrown in" when I bought the sand and rock. I wound up with all the contents including fish.

aztbs... How would you frag it?

It should be just like cutting up zoanthids. The stems would all come together in a mat of interconnected tissue. Take a razor blade and just separate the polyps.

Thats one of the weirder ones i've seen yet haha. Is that it when its opened, or is it closed there?

It's closed... It only opens at night and the ends look similar to a paly when open.

Seriously??? Wow thats gotta look really weird lol. Is it possible to get a picture of them at night, or do they close up right when the lights come on? Or maybe just moonlights? i dunno haha

I'll give it a try...

If they are closed, the light may be to high. Try placing them in a shadow.

Not the best picture... But here it is starting to open...

I've got these too. I was surprised to find them classified as zooanthids. They are hardy, weird-looking and I'm strangely fond of them. I just saw some for sale that have an irridescent green sheen on the tubes. You'd think that would make them more pretty, but it just makes them look even weirder!

I had not seen one before and I really like it. Not real colorful but quite different. I will be attempting to frag it and will make them available...

Those are "Isaurus" polyps

They are nocturnal for the most part.
And very passive
You can even put them in with seahorses.

Regarding the "snake polyps"...

I have one that has three tubes, each about 1.5" long. It seems to have periods of days when it opens at night, followed by days when it stays closed, even at night. Can anyone tell me if this behavior is normal?

Thanks, Fred

My guess is that its in less-than-ideal conditions...you may have something a bit off from what they prefer and wont open sometimes because of it. Specially if stuff is fluctuating

Very interesting info senator. Thanks!! :)
Storagedaddy, I'd like a frag whenever you frag these. I have a 40g seahorse tank that I want to start putting a few corals in. Got lots of stuff to trade.
