Well since IMAC is canceled i am trying to generate a buzz for a club( that i am not a part of) that is putting on the biggest Salt water event in Southern California this year on Sat Aug 18th..

It is called RAP

Vendors from all over are going to be there.... and as it is in Orange County you will be just minutes away from both Disneyland and Knotts Berry farm...( if that helps getting the wife to allow you to take a family trip to SoCal):D

More info can be found HERE (http://www.reefapalooza.org/) ....

Hope some of you can make it out....

Here are some of the vendors that are attending...

So, who has been? What is it like? Are the speakers good? What is the turnout like? Will it be packed? Please describe.

Do I need to make reservations? Will the kids like it?

Curtis............I have been. 3 years ago but it was different back then. More like a Huge FRAG meet with vendors. It was held in a backyard and there was a BBQ. Anthony Calfo was there and I don't think he spoke but you could have a chat with him.

Prior to RAP there was a monster thread over on the SoCal Forum like we have here before FRAG. Trades, sells for free stuff posted and dibs.

This thing will prolly be packed. I don't think kids will have much fun. Speakers will be alright. Admission is $5 which ya can't beat.

So having said all that............I would think the main reason for someone to travel to RAP is to buy/sell coral and then ya gotta be prepared to get it back asap.

beleive you were talking about the "frag swaps" at Dave B's house. attended a few and it was bunch of fun for everyone. it was more than just a frag swap. got kinda bad when vendors were introduced...hehe

Can you bring Frags back on a jet?? I would imagine driving is the only way if you happen to find something good.

I sure would like to make this. Too bad Vegas is not happening.

Nope, I'm talking about about RAP. It might have been at Dave's, I dunno. Here is the RAP thread I mentioned.

No thread like that this time. :(

It was never at Dave's house (he belongs to MASLAC), that was just Dave's annual swap.

RAP has always been held in Orange County and is put on by SCMAS (Southern California Marine Aquarium Society)

Thanks everyone. I guess like everyone, I would be interested in going if I thought there were opportunities to land some pretty good deals and or learn some nice pearls about reef keeping. Sounds like this meeting might be a few years off. Too bad IMAC went south. i was looking forward to that.

There is plenty of opportunity there to score awesome coral. I have no doubt this RAP will have, under one roof, more coral than any other show or swap.

I started my tank with corals I bought at RAP 3 years ago. The deals were great back then. I have no idea what prices will be like this year.

you have Fragfarmer... Reefermadness, Greg Carrol, Hugo, Jendub, Steve Garret, come on... those are some of the best coral farmers out there...

I hope you guys come down for this event. This event is big, I mean really big. That building is 18,000 sq/ft! http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c10/gcarroll/chef_smiley.gif

LOL, I was gonna hitcha up for some RAP info and talk cars. I made a decision I don't think you'd approve of.

Anyway - I'm definitely going, I just need to figure out if the wife is going to make me take the fam or not. I know some of those reef guys can party so hopefully not. I'm trying to get Elos to make it down there also!

Kirsten brings up a good point - make sure you thoughtfully plan out the coral transport. Bill, if the jet is yours (and not your Porsche) - then I'm travelling with you.

I went to a frag swap at Dave B's - that was a lot of fun. He's a great guy.

I'm thinking about going. I have a daughter starting ASU and moving into the dorms that weekend, so that's a bit of a glitch for me.
