that sucks, all I can say is wait until your ready to buy with the money in hand before you start working a deal. but then again you have to price things out to get some sort of idea what its going to cost. so you damned either way.

hmmm, that is not good.........were they able to tell you why the price went up? Did you talk to the same person?

Get a written quote from whoever you talk to. A handshake doesnt mean anything anymore. Of course most any store out there will tell you prices are subject to change.

How long did you wait between the quote and when you actually decided to have them order it? And did you deal with the same person who quoted you when you went in to buy?

One other thing from experience. When I worked at a LFS we used to order custom acrylic tanks, and the order book wasnt the most clearly laid out piece of literature. Is it possible they misquoted you in the beginning and realized their error when you came back?

well i called him wensday then he called lee-mar and called me back with the price. i have known him for a long time i bought my 125g tank set up from him it was also a lee-mar tank. i went in there friday 2 days after talking to him on the phone and was talking to him about the tank and he said that he cant order it till monday to call him monday and he will order it. i even asked him the price he even had it written down on a paper from when i called him wensday for the price $211.29

maybe the tank is still $211.29 - the rest? - shipping & tax...???

it's possible when he initially called for pricing you were told only pricing on the tank itself.

things that make you go hmmmmm.....

I think her name is Chris---she pretty much runs the show there. I had a bad experience with livestock from them and haven't been back since. I very much prefer ATR or Paul for stuff!

I can tell you a possibility on this, on several recent tank orders quoted from the latest lee mar catalog I had a large price dicrepensy on the tanks, stands, and canopies. Was told the book prices are in stock items, anything they no longer stock gets a bump up in price to build it. P****d me off a few times where I actually lost money on a stand or canopy once they arrived(thinking the book price was accurate. I have been meaning to call lee mar about this catalog price differences cause if you have to quote a tank when lee mar is closed (fri-sun) then you are up the creek without a paddle it seems.

ok the thing is this wasent a standard tank out of the lee-mar book. he called them up and called me back with the price of the tank. im gonna call him back tomorrow and see what happend. i dont know what to do but im not gonna spend almost 300.00 just on the tank i mean come on its only a 30g cube tank and i can just got buy a oceanic 30g cube tank/only for what like 100.00+ tax?

The 30g tanks that I had built for my prop systems cost me more than $250 each, they were 24x24x12 with 3 holes and an overflow. Price doesnt really sound that bad. It costs a fair bit more to do a one off tank than it does to run an assembly line like Oceanic.

yeah and even changing the color of a stand or canopy over in stock items adds cost to teh tank it seems.

i think that would be the best thing to do. if its going to be that much of a problem getting the price straihgt, then what do you think will happen when you need customer service for any future problems. call Skip and get it done right the first time.
