I'm 39 and I refuse to reach the 40 mark at the end of this year, so from now on I am counting backwards so next year at this time I will still be 39, then 38 and so on.

Here's what cracks me up. Darlene reminded me of this when she posted that she was born in 1981....

Most of you did not experience what it was like to stand in line for six hours waiting to buy tickets to see Star Wars in 1977....

A movie that brought the most powerful nation on Earth virtually to a screaching halt. I mean, the stock market was impacted by people taking off work to go see that movie. It was crazy.

I was 9 at the time, and it is one of the most sentient positive memories I have of my childhood.

I suppose a similar point of view occurs when someone in their 50's looks at someone my age and thinks "wow, they missed the Beatles and seeing Neil Armstrong walk on the moon..."

So my question is: what will most of you currently in your 20's consider as a common landmark moment of your childhood...?

The World Series Earthquake in 89? the first Gulf War?

Please don't say Cabbage Patch kids... I implore you.

There are still work-and-school skipping things today to wait in long lines. Now it's for things like Wii, Halo 3, Harry Potter... :p

I'll always remember the Challenger exploding pretty clearly. And of course every moment of the day of 9/11, 2001.

Oh wait - the question was directed towards those in their 20's. :)

I remember reading the paper every morning to see if any neighborhood boys were drafted for the Vietnam War. I was 8 or 9.

Actually I didn't have to stand in line for 6 hrs to see Star Wars. BUT I did have to stand in line 4 hrs in the dead of winter to see the first Star Trek movie.

Oil Embargo of 1973. Never forget that.

Challenger is a good one.

And of course 9/11.

The big five oh in three weeks for me!

Congrats AzDesert Rat!!

I'm a product of the O.G. Starwars \ Transformers generation. Born in '73. My generation must of had great childhood in terms of playthings, because they're recycling everything from my childhood now. It's kind of cool to see my kids play with the same things I did: Star wars, Transformers, GI Joes..

Ahhhh nostalgia:) Thinking back, i grew up in great times and great inventions - Atari 2600, Commodore64's, BMX, Skateboarding (Who had a Christian Hosoi?), Underoos, Knight Rider, Garbage Pail Kids and Black Belt Theater :)

Snaping out of dream like state.... Reality.. Dang, I'm stuck in a cubicle... Oh well, in 30 more years I can retire and use my SS check to buy a nano, or at least a nano powerhead..

I vividly remember the assasination attempt on Reagan,

the American hostages in Iran

the first launch of the Columbia (My family was visiting KSC while the Columbia was on the pad but missed the launch due to delays)

This thread has become a trip back to childhood.
