I think this may be a type of branching coral

I was told this will will table out. (Tabling acropora maybe?)

What type of brain is this? I was told when I got it that it needed to be off the sand and that it would actually recede if placed on sand.

I am one of those silly people who likes to know the exact name when possible :)

Thanks all

good luck?

The sight I looked at when I googled it said medium light, low flow, fairly easy to care for. Also if that is what it is I got a hell of deal :)

The first two are acros. Make sure you have strong lighting for them. The 3rd one is a favia. I've seen many with that coloration called alien eye favias. They need medium light and can be fed food.

What lights do you have? If you have MH or T5s, the first two will do well and might turn a nice color at the top of the tank and the 3rd one can be put in the middle or at the bottom

Here is my lighting. (http://www.drsfostersmith.com/Product/Prod_Display.cfm?pcatid=12772&N=2004+113175)

How exactly would I feed the favia, I see no real mouth or feelers like my candycanes have.

You might be able to keep the two acros. Put them really high up in the rockwork near the light. They like lots of light.

With the favia, turn off the pumps and spray some cyclopeez on them. I think then will you see some tentacles and see them eat. Give it a try.

You got some nice corals, maintain good water quality and they should do fine.

The first two are Acropora sp.
The third is Not Acanthastrea. It is some kind of faviid. Moderate light and medium flow. They will feed when given the chance- cyclops, mysis, possibly even very small pellets. Its not totally necessary to feed them, but you will see much improved growth and tissue expansion if you do. You could probably place it on the bottom of the tank, but Id put it on a flat piece of rockwork just to minimize any irritation from sand grains.

thanks for the help all. On of the Acro's is moved up, 2nd is waiting on more rock to get higher. The Favia will stay up off the sand. Thanks again all, hopefully soon I can get you some nice grown pictures :)

One question about the favia and growth. I assume it will grow off the rock it came on. when it starts going to another rock will it create a new colony or will it more or less make the two rocks into one? If it is the later how would you go about separating them?

it will spread over the rock, essentially continuing the growth of the main colony. If you want to separate the rocks afterwards its not difficult- the skeleton should split very easily between the stones.
