Could I essentially have a soft coral only tank or would this offset the eco of my system without any hard corals? I bought a mushroom and Zoa’s at the frag meet on Saturday and had a couple of others given to me. What a difference these make in appearance even tho they are small. Before talking with you all on Saturday I did not think this was feasible. This has me wanting some more soft corals down the road. Go figure heh. I am planning to upgrade my lighting to Power Compact’s or T5’s 4 or 5 light setup if this is indeed possible to do. I really don’t want to do metal halide’s.

Don’t know how detailed I have to be but here goes. My tank is a 90 gallon with a standard single light with 90 lbs of live rock three power heads two Powersweep 228’s at 270 gallons per hour at each end and Penguin at 300 gallons per hour in the middle pointing at the surface a Coralife Super Skimmer 125 gal model. Fish consist of a Coral Beauty, Flame angel, Damsel, Bicolor Blenny and a CBS.

Two of the lights I’m thinking about. Which one do you think would be the best fit. Also can these set right on the glass canopy?

IMO I would check out reef geek If you only want to keep softies and some lps a 4 x 54 tec light would be perfect...

Well to answer you're first question, an all soft coral tank should be just fine, in fact some people would recommend it.
As for lighting, it's really up to you... I bet you could find a good used T5 or PC setup for sale within our local forums...
I'm sure you'll find more proponents for T5, and if going new, that seems to be the direction to go. although I'm using PC and have been pretty happy so far.
you could probably even get a retrofit kit for your current setup... again depends on what you want to do. Individual reflectors are also key for either choice.
Not sure about the glass canopy... probably ok but I dont know

Thanks you all for your input. So Piazzon12 are you giving the edge to T5's? If anyone is using T5's I would love input.
