I've had this anemone for about a year and a half....It started out with an oral disk about four inches across. It almost always had bulbed tips. After dividing three times, the one clone I kept has an oral disk about 12-16 inches across. On top of that, it's foot is attached to the bottom of my tank and the column extends up through the rockwork for approximately 12 inches. The anemone no longer shows the bulbed tips. The tentacles are long and skinny. My discussions with a couple of guys at the LFS left us guessing that once the anemone reaches a certain size, it no longer reproduces by cloning. Anyone have any antecdotal evidence to the contrary?

Hey there, desert mama :p

My position is, it's the other way around, once an E.quad stops dropping clones (a malfunction in my opinion), it gets bigger and bigger. Hope it isn't snowing over THERE.

Forgot to mention:

Yes, after some time, cloning does slow down. This is irrelevant of the parent animal's size.

Think of it as making too many copies off of a degenerating template. It makes sense to limit the risk of promoting a mutation, since damage to the DNA code accumulates over time.

Merry Christmas.

Can someone post a pick of the Rose E. quadricolor. I don't think I've come across one yet in my reefing
Thanks Erik

Hi Reefgal,
I also have a BTA, and it's growing like crazy. I've had it 4 months, oral disk about 4" when I got it and now is about 6" +. Mine is anchored in a crevice at the base of a large piece of LR and extends up the crack about 8"-9". Dont' know if it's a rose or not, it was almost white with purple tips when I got it but has nice color now. No division yet but I'm hoping. It hosts my pink skunk clown which splits it's time between the BTA and a large LTA.

here is a "Bay Area" Rose E. Quad. They seem to be common here. They are sold by reefers who raise clones, and run from $50-200 depending on size/coloration. This one is typical, although some can be more pink, and some more red. The one's in this area show great "bubble-tips" compared to many I have seen.
