I thought shrimp required iodine to shed their skeletons. In any case it should be in sufficient quantities in "instant Ocean" salt and other ocean mixes where all the trace elements are provided.

Well, bought a 3 piece kit, with Iodine in it. I've been puting it in my 10 gallon, and it's not hurting anything. So Yeah it must be doing good! Rocks/Fish/Corals all flourishing!!

Whether I use it in the future after my supply runs out will be questionable. If my results stay the same , then yes I'll Iodine.

One note-worthy aspect The skimmer pulls it out, so its real impact is short lived I suppose.

just wait till the iodine level builds up to toxic levels. never dose if you don't test for it, golden rule number 1.

I could never keep xenia in my tanks (friend also had issues). I used oceanic salt, which I've read is low in iodine, as well as reading xenia needs some in the water.

So, I changed nothing except dosing Seachem Iodide, just a little in any new water I mix up for water changes, and then once or twice in between changes if needed. Xenia is now doing great. Shrimp haven't had molting problems either since.

Not a perfect scientific trial, but it's given me positive results so far.Either way, you should be careful with how much you dose.

I used it the last time about 6 years ago because of all of the miraculous things it was supposed to do. I stopped using it because I got lazy. However, I noticed my xenia continued to flourish and never have noticed molting problems in my shrimp or crabs. It probably is only useful for select situations in which it is rapidly depleted for some reason.
