well i am going to post on here my 110 build that is if northcoast reefers don't mind. well let me start with the measurments 60x18x24 i have also heard this is a 125 tall but it really doesn't matter what it is called. so here is the DIY stand and canopy. I am currently waiting for the canopy to dry from being sealed. The stand is sealed all ready. both are using 1x6 to support the weight. The tank is currently at arch's glass getting ready to be drilled. i am a little nervous about this but we will see how it goes.
Here is the tank as a freshwater tank. I will update when things change.

Clay, I am in the process of building a 90, and I am going to make a fuge as well. Is there a reason why you decided to have the return built into the fuge instead of making it external? Or does it not really matter? I was thinking of raising the temp, so
i decided to do it external. where are your baffles and what type of skimmer are you going to use? Nice work.

Hey Clay,

where did you get the design for your fuge from. I am going to create a fuge from my old 38 gal. I like the way yours is laid out, and from what I see it's not so hard to do. I can really just look at your pics and get a good idea of what needs to be done. But, if you have a DIY plan, it will be also be a big help.

thanks RevClyburn

i did it all in one due to space. I dont think a pump of about 1300gph will rasie the temp in set-up of 150 gallons. in smaller set-ups yes. but no big tanks. My baffles are place where i wanted them each one is about an 1inch a part. i am going to run the RS-80 from euro reef for my skimmer.

as for the design i just have been looking at other refugiums and picking parts that i like and putting them all into one. It is really easy i just made sure they are striaght and where i want them. As for a plan i just figured how big i wanted my fuge and how big the footprint on my skimmer would be and measured out from there. if you have any questions feel free to pm me or just ask them here i will answer what i can.

hey looks good, now you can take that extra money and go with your buddy out to steves and get a few corals for your new tank......ohhh forgot you still have to cycle, we'll you still saved a couple hundred anyway. when you need some macro for your fuge let me know.

revclyburn
03/15/2007, 12:15 AM
Do you have to cycle the fuge?

And as for the fuge, I'll just wing and see how it comes out. I've seen a lot of designs, all are basically the same I guess. I'm just a little intimidated with the whole thing, don't want to create a mess. But, hey, if I don't try it, I'll never know if I can do it. Have you thought about making a arcylic fuge? Saw some plans for one, lookd a little easy too. But, let me make a couple before I GRADUATE to that level.

how are you planning on feeding your skimmer and is the return internal or external?

yeah jeff we will be heading up there today. but i still have a nano at work that could use some more corals. thanks again.

Cycle the fuge i dont know. i was planing on cycling it with the tank. the fuge is acrylic. the skimmer will be internal in the return part of the refugium.

the books are the wifes. as for the beer bottles i keep those out of the picks just incase there are kids watching.

I did a DIY wet dry to fuge conversion. All I did was add a baffle and we were ready to go. I had an external skimmer.
<a href="http://photobucket.com" target="_blank"><img src="http://i163.photobucket.com/albums/t296/chrismhaase/refuge.jpg" border="0" alt="Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket"></a>

It was a 90 gallon rated wet dry. I know it was small but in this 55 gallon reef I had about 90lbs of LR and 70-80lbs of LS, cheato, mangroves, and some red gracilia. My tank was good.

chrismhaase
03/15/2007, 10:57 AM
I never cycled my fuge. I did use fuge mud and ls sand when I hooked it up. I got a little brown algae bloom for about a day, but my cleanup crew took care of it.

This was a picture right after I cleaned it. My buddy has it on his 65. This is a monster. I had a great time using it. It worked really good for me. I had a mag 7 on it and ran it out of the section where the raw water comes in and then flows into the fuge section.

Is that an Oceanic tank? I have the exact same tank and stand that I have had for over 15 years, its been empty for the last 7 years and I'm going to be building into a reef in a few years. Mine has the same measurements and is not drilled. I was thinking when I bought it that they said that it was not tempered and the bottom could be drilled out. How thick is your glass by the way?
Looks great by the way!

Looks great. What do you want to stock your tank with, SPS, LPS, softies, mixed, etc? Since your tank is being set up from scratch, this gives you a chance to have it set up just the way you want it. An example is by not putting in mushrooms if you want an SPS dominating tank. Just ask Tom about that!:D :D
