Hi

I'm currently running a 24 g nano cube. I have replaced the stock pump with a maxi jet 1200 as the tank was running slightly too hot, plus I wanted the extra bit of flow the maxi jet produces. I have found that the new pump has made things worse. My tank creeps up to 85 most evenings. I do not have a heater in the tank. God knows how people run two powerheads. It does not seem to be effecting the inhabitants at the moment but I would rather bring the temp down just in case.

Has anyone else had similar problems?

Thanks in advance

May be Maxi-Jet 900 - it's close to MJ 1200 in gph, but consumes 1/3 of the power, so it shouldn't heat water so much?
MJ 900, 230 gph, uses 8.5 W - I'd used MJ 600 in NC 6g (160gph, 7.5W) - not problem with heating, vibration only.
Comparative table is here: http://www.wetwebmedia.com/ca/volume_3/cav3i1/Powerhead_test/powerhead_comp.htm

for what it's worth---I take the top of a plastic pen and wedge it under the top to allow some air flow--have found this can help 1-2 degrees when the tank heats up, though of course--increases evap
