I have used a Surge 3500 pump for approx 3 years on my 29 gallon tank with a 1" bulkhead without problems. I do valve back the overflow to the sump to keep the strainer from getting sucking/gurgling noises. I would think you could easily get away with a 3/4" BH.

I have never used a closed loop- currently have 2 tunze nanostreams 6025's on my 29g. One would be plenty for LPS or softies, I plan on adding some SPS to mine.

how much ghp does the surge 3500 push?

i do already have a mag 7, and would like to split the return into 2 outlets. would the mag 7 work.

i didd the head loss calc. and it said the mag 7 would be pushing 409 gph...

Not to comletely hijack the thread, but how do the fish like both of the 6025s in your 29 gallon tank? I was thinking of getting these as well, but I wasn't sure if that would be too much flow for the tank.

Also, do you have them set so that they are both on continuously or are they used with a wavemaker?
