Okay i need some help from more experienced reefers with my flow situation..

About 8 months ago i discovered the scwd and immediately planned to use it on my next tank...

I setup my 20L in august and slapped that baby on with a quiet one 3000 as my return - meaning i should be getting out ~540 gph and switching at 5 seconds... Well, anyone who has used a scwd knows that isnt true - im getting about 16 second switch which means im going from 600gph up 3 feet into a scwd and getting 120gph out... Woot woot...

i have tiny pumps that can do more...

So i need to come up with a new plan...

i think i am going to hook it over the top like a standard return, but what should i do about "random flow" that i want in the tank? The tank is a mixed reef... right now mostly softies with a torch and a frogspawn but i plan on bringing home my first few sps from a local frag swap on the 11th of Feb... so id like to have this new flow setup ASAP...

what is everyones experience with the nanostreams? is a 6025 too strong for a 30" long tank? Would two 6025's pointing at each other destroy my tank? i go pretty minimal on rock in my display and i would be willing to remove more to increase open space for water to flow and i feel that will work to my advantage for creating flow...

im running a hydorflow with a 365 Gph pond pump, and it moves the water but isn't too much.

2 nanos would be too much IMO...such a shallow tank. I would think you would end up with a sandstorm.

as far as sand storms go i am willing to remove some/most of the sand to the sump area (its really not tough with a regular 3/4" vinyl tube siphon... i like the look of sand, but i can deal with very little if i have to... all it ever does is grow algae anyway (probably because the low flow allows it to attach... and i have no sand sifting animals)

maybe you could build a false wall and have the scwd and pump right in the tank... Thus reducing the head loss factor...

do a 6025 it should be fine if you remove the sand or a MJ w/mod.

if you want to use the scwd why not use it with a big pump?

because for the cost of a new/bigger return pump i could just take full advantage of the 600gph im putting out now and get a nanostream or something like that...

I put a 6025 Nano in mine 20L. It is to much for softies and sand.IMO
I rips! Great little pump.
I put in my Rio Sieo 600 which is supposed to be the same GPH and no way!.It s about 1/2 the Tunze. It works pretty well with the hang on the edge mod (stream style)

Ii have a 20 long with a mag 7 plummed through a modded sqwd and they come out of the twm front bottoms of the tank and i also have a tunze 6025 and i love it after a day or two you will find the right place to mount and face the pump so the sand isnt flying arround..i love my setup current for days...all my sps have the longest pe since i went that route. i had a closed loop on the tank and it sucked......hope this helps out

i threw in a minijet 606 and a AC Powerhead 201 for temp flow and already my corals perked up... so im convinced i need more flow... i cant leave these in because i dont trust suction cups - ive already had to reset them about 10 times today from falling off the glass...
