Ultimate propagation tank depth?

I am building a coral propagation tank. It is going to be lit with 250w MH aquaspace lights with PC Actinics. What would be the best depth for the tank to grow a variety of SPS and LPS corals?
Please specify if the depth given is for the tank, or top of coral to water surface.

That is a really good question that I have been struggling with too. It probably is really important to account for the intended sandbed or whatever substrate depth in a shallower tank.


I keep eyeing those breeder 40 gals, this HD underbed storage box has to go(emergency replacement because I broke my other prop tank).
