Waste of money? Naa, maybe a waste of space though. 4"- 6" of sand in a tank that is already cramped for space can make things a little tight.

As far as working, I don't think you get the same filtration benefits as you do in a large system, but it will definitely house some little detrivores that will help cleanup your tank. Of course, many of these will do just as well in 2" of sand. :p

I am thinking more along the lines of one tt one and a half inches. The main thing I care about is denitrifacation. Will it do this?
